Pallet transfer
Move entire pallets from one location to another with a 4-step guided workflow. Scan the pallet, verify its contents, indicate the destination and confirm — all directly from your Android device, without touching Odoo.
Overview
Pallet Transfer is the function of SiltaFlow to move an entire pallet from one place in the warehouse to another. Instead of managing individual products one by one, you work on the entire unit: you scan the pallet code, see everything it contains and move it en bloc to the destination you indicate.
Before confirming the move, the app shows you a visual summary of all the contents of the pallet — products, quantities, batches and any internal boxes. You can expand and collapse levels to test even the most nested content. Only when you are sure you are moving the right pallet to the right destination do you confirm with a touch.
Each move automatically updates the pallet position on Odoo. Once completed, you can immediately move on to the next pallet without returning to the main menu.
The movement is recorded on Odoo in two distinct phases. If the connection drops in the middle, it is possible that the pallet is updated but not the associated inventory (or vice versa). In case of anomalies, check and correct directly on Odoo.
4 Step Workflow
The Pallet Transfer flow is divided into 4 sequential steps, always visible at the top of the screen. You cannot skip a step: each step is unlocked only when the previous one is completed.
Step 1 — Scan the pallet
Identify the pallet you want to move. You can do this in three ways:
- Hardware scanner — If you have a scanner Zebra or similar, point the reader at the pallet label. The code is acquired automatically, without touching the screen.
- Camera — Touch the camera icon to activate the integrated barcode reader. Frame the pallet label and wait for the automatic reading.
- Manual typing — If the label is damaged or missing, tap the text field and type the pallet code. Also useful for quick checks in the office.
If the code corresponds to a pallet present on Odoo, step 1 turns green and the workflow automatically advances to step 2. If the pallet is not found, the app shows an error message with an invitation to try again.
Step 2 — Check the content
After identifying the pallet, the app shows everything it contains. The content is organized in an expandable tree:
- The stock lines directly on the pallet (product, quantity, unit of measurement and lot, if present)
- Any internal boxes or packages, each with its own list of contents
- Packages nested up to 3 levels deep
- The total number of items, calculated by adding all levels
Tap a package header to expand or collapse its contents. The first level is already expanded when you get to this step.
The number of items in the pallet header counts all products at all levels. For example, a pallet with 3 boxes of 4 products each will show "12 items", not "3 boxes".
Step 3 — Scan the destination
Indicate where you want to move the pallet. As with the pallet, you can use the hardware scanner, camera, or manually type the location code.
After scanning, the app displays the legible name of the location (e.g. "WH/Stock/A-12-3") for visual confirmation. If you scanned the wrong location, you can simply re-scan the correct one without starting from the beginning.
Step 4 — Confirm the transfer
The last step shows a summary with the pallet name and destination location. Check that everything is correct, then tap the Confirm button.
While the app communicates with Odoo you will see a loading indicator. Upon completion, a screen with a green check confirms the move. From here you can tap "Scan Pallet Code" to immediately begin transferring the next pallet.
In the event of an error (for example a network or permissions problem), the app shows the details of the error and allows you to try again without losing the data already entered.
When to use Pallet Transfer
Pallet Transfer is the right choice whenever you need to move a complete logistics unit without opening Odoo on a computer. Here are the most common cases:
- Receiving Goods — After receiving a pallet from the loading dock, move it directly to its final storage slot by scanning the label and shelf.
- Shipment Preparation — Gather pallets destined for a truck in the staging area, updating positions in real time on Odoo before loading.
- FIFO/FEFO Rotation — Checks batches in the content tree and relocates pallets with the closest deadlines to the most accessible picking locations.
- Production End — Moves pallets from the production area to the buffer or consolidation area as they come off the line.
- Location Fix — If you find a pallet in the wrong place during an inventory, fix its location on Odoo directly from the app without returning to the PC.
- Picking replenishment — Bring pallets from bulk storage to the picking locations (picking face) with the guided workflow, ensuring the traceability of each movement.
Practical Examples
Example 1 — Pallet from loading dock to shelf
The warehouse worker approaches the PAL-2024-0842 pallet that has just arrived in the loading bay. Opens the Pallet Transfer function and scans the barcode with the hardware scanner.
The app shows the contents: the pallet contains 48 packs of "Extra Virgin Oil 5L", all from the same batch. No inner box. The warehouse worker visually confirms that it is the expected pallet.
Scan the target shelf label. The app displays the location name for visual confirmation.
Tap Confirm. The screen shows the green check and the message that the move has occurred. The warehouse worker taps "Scan Pallet Code" to move to the next pallet.
Example 2 — Complex pallet with internal boxes
The operator scans a pallet in the production area that contains 3 internal boxes plus 2 rows of direct product.
On the review screen, expand each box to review products and lots. The header shows “11 total articles” — the sum of all levels. The operator confirms that the content is correct.
The label of the destination location is damaged, so please type the code manually. The app displays the matching name for confirmation.
Confirm the transfer. Odoo updates the position of the pallet and all associated inventory.
Example 3 — Fixing a misplaced pallet
During an inspection, the manager finds a pallet of returned goods in a picking location where it shouldn't be. Start Pallet Transfer and scan the pallet with your camera.
The tree shows 2 returned products with their respective lots, confirming that these are the goods to be relocated to the returns quarantine area.
Scan the target location. By mistake, he scans the wrong one first — he notices this by reading the name shown by the app — and re-scans the correct one without starting over.
Confirm. Odoo records the correction. The manager does not need to open the browser to manually correct the position.
Things to Know
Before using Pallet Transfer in production, keep these points in mind:
- Connection Required — The module requires an active connection to Odoo for each step. There is no offline mode available.
- The pallet must have a code — The pallet must have a name or barcode assigned in Odoo. Pallets without an identifier are not searchable by scanning.
- Permissions on Odoo — The user configured in SiltaFlow must have rights to modify pallet and inventory locations. If the permissions are missing, the transfer fails at step 4, after you have already completed the previous steps. Check permissions before go-live.
- Location validation from local cache — The destination is searched in the location list saved on the device, not in real time on Odoo. If the cache is out of date, it may accept outdated locations. Sync cache regularly from settings.
- Maximum 3 levels deep — Content view shows up to 3 levels of nested boxes. Deeper structures are not displayed in the tree.
- Full Transfer Only — Only part of the pallet cannot be moved. The transfer always concerns the entire pallet with everything it contains. For partial movements, use the standard picking functions.
- One pallet at a time — The workflow manages one pallet per cycle. To move many pallets to the same destination, repeat the flow for each one. The quick reset button minimizes the time between one transfer and the next.
- No in-app history — The app does not keep a history of transfers made. To consult the movements performed, access the movement history of Odoo.
- Pallet engaged in a transfer Odoo — If the pallet is already associated with a transfer order in the "Ready" or "In Progress" state on Odoo, moving directly may create inconsistencies. Always check that the pallet is not already occupied before proceeding.
Tips
Print barcode labels on every pallet and on every shelf. With a hardware scanner you can complete the 4 steps without ever touching the screen — ideal if you work with gloves or on an electric pallet truck.
For pallets with many different products or lots, take a few seconds to expand all the boxes in the content tree before confirming. Identifying an error at this point is much quicker than correcting a transfer to Odoo after the fact.
In intensive sessions with many pallets to move to different destinations, use the "Scan Pallet Code" button on the success screen to immediately move to the next pallet, without returning to the main menu.
Check the permissions of the user Odoo configured in SiltaFlow before going into production. A permissions issue only emerges at step 4, after the operator has completed all previous steps.
Make sure you have good Wi-Fi coverage in all handling areas. An unstable connection increases response times and the risk of errors in communication with Odoo.
