Pallet Consolidation
Merge multiple pallets into one or split the contents of a pallet into two separate units. Two distinct modes accessible with a single tap, with support for hardware scanner, camera and manual input.
Overview
Pallet Consolidation is the function of SiltaFlow that allows you to reorganize the pallets in the warehouse without going through the computer. You have two operations available: Merge, to merge the contents of multiple pallets into one, and Division, to extract part of the contents of a pallet and move it to a new, separate pallet.
From the main screen, tap the corresponding button in the Warehouse area to open Pallet Consolidation. At the top of the screen you will find a tab selector that allows you to switch between the two modes at any time. All scan fields accept hardware scanner Zebra, device camera, or manual typing regardless — you don't have to configure anything before getting started.
All operations are performed directly on Odoo in real time. The result is immediate: pallets are updated in the inventory without manual intermediate steps.
To use Pallet Consolidation, pallet management (Stock Package) must be active in the warehouse configuration Odoo and the device must be connected to the server Odoo.
Merge Mode
Merge mode merges the contents of two or more pallets into a single destination pallet. It's useful when you have partially full pallets that take up more space than necessary, or when you want to consolidate stock before a shipment or a shelf reorganization.
How to perform a Union
- Make sure the Merge tab is selected at the top of the screen.
- Scan the first pallet. An entry appears in the list with the name of the pallet, its current location and the number of items it contains.
- Scan all other pallets you want to merge. Each scan adds one entry to the list — you can add as many as you want.
- Select the destination pallet using the radio button next to the corresponding entry. This will be the pallet that will remain and receive all the contents of the others.
- Tap Merge Pallet to confirm. SiltaFlow moves all items from the source pallets to the destination pallet. Source pallets will be empty in inventory.
Choose as the destination pallet the one that is already in the final storage location. This way only the source pallets need to be physically moved, reducing the necessary movements.
You can change your destination pallet selection at any time before tapping Confirm. If you need to combine dozens of pallets, scan them all in sequence: the list is updated with each scan and the radio button can be changed up to the last one.
Division mode
Split mode extracts a portion of the contents of a pallet and moves it to a new, separate pallet. It is useful for preparing partial shipments, separating items with different batches or expiration dates, or dividing a mixed pallet into multiple dedicated logistics units.
How to perform a Division
- Select the Division tab at the top of the screen.
- Scan the pallet you want to split. SiltaFlow immediately loads the contents of the pallet, showing it in two complementary views: a hierarchical tree and a detailed list with selection boxes.
- Scroll through the content and read the available lines: each line shows the product, quantity, unit of measurement and lot number (if present).
- Check the boxes corresponding to the items you want to extract and move to the new pallet. Unchecked lines will remain in the original pallet.
- Touch Split Pallet. Odoo automatically creates a new pallet with the selected items and updates the inventory. The original pallet retains the remaining rows.
Before ticking rows, scroll through the entire content tree. The pallet may contain nested sub-packages that are not visible at a physical glance — best to check everything before confirming.
The name of the new pallet is automatically assigned by Odoo according to the sequence configured in your warehouse. It is not possible to choose the name from the mobile app. If necessary, immediately print a label with the Print Labels function before moving the pallet.
Selection by exclusion
If you need to extract almost all the content leaving only a few lines, you can proceed by exclusion: check all the lines and then deselect those that must remain in the original pallet. Selecting all rows is allowed.
Scanning methods
Pallet Consolidation scan fields accept all input methods at once — you don't have to choose which one to use before you get started.
- Hardware Scanner Zebra — If you use a Zebra device with DataWedge configured for SiltaFlow, simply point the scanner at the pallet code. The code is entered automatically. It is the fastest and most precise method, recommended for long or alphanumeric codes.
- Device camera — Tap the camera icon and frame the pallet label barcode. The code is recognized and entered automatically.
- Manual entry — If the label is damaged or the code is not readable, type the name of the pallet with the keyboard and confirm with Enter.
Practical examples
Union of 3 partial pallets
At the end of the day you have three pallets with residual quantities of the same product in different aisles. You want to concentrate everything in a single pallet to free up space.
- Open SiltaFlow → Warehouse → Pallet Consolidation. The Union tab is already selected.
- Scan
PAL-0041(Shelf A3/P2, 1 item), thenPAL-0056(Shelf B1/P1, 1 item), thenPAL-0072(Shelf A3/P4, 1 item). The list shows all three entries with location and count. - Select
PAL-0041as the destination pallet (it is already at the most accessible point) using the radio button. - Tap Merge Pallet. Items from
PAL-0056andPAL-0072are moved toPAL-0041. The warehouse gains two free locations.
Division for partial shipment
A customer orders 40 units of Item Y (Lot LB01) and 25 units of Item Z. Pallet PAL-0088 contains both of these items plus additional lines that must remain in storage.
- Go to the Division tab and scan PAL-0088. The content tree shows 3 rows: Item Y × 40 Lot LB01, Item Y × 30 Lot LB02, Item Z × 25 Lot LC10.
- Check the boxes of Item Y Lot LB01 and Item Z Lot LC10. The Item Y Lot LB02 row remains unselected.
- Touch Split Pallet. Odoo creates PAL-0101 with the two lines selected. PAL-0088 retains only Item Y × 30 Lot LB02.
- PAL-0101 is ready to be transferred to the shipping area with the Pallet Transfer function.
Lot separation to comply with FEFO
A pallet received at acceptance contains the same product in two batches with different expiry dates. You want to separate them to facilitate withdrawals in expiry order.
- Scan PAL-0033 in Division mode. The tree shows: Lot L-EXP-240601 × 60 units (expires June) and Lot L-EXP-241201 × 60 units (expires December).
- Only the line of the batch expiring in December (the one to be kept in storage for the longest) is ticked. The short-term lot remains unselected.
- Confirm. Odoo creates PAL-0034 with long-life lot. PAL-0033 keeps only the batch with the closest expiration, ready to be picked up first.
- Move PAL-0033 to express pick lane and PAL-0034 to deep storage. The two lots are now physically separate and easily identifiable.
When to use each mode
Choose the mode based on the objective of the operation:
| Feature | Union | Division |
|---|---|---|
| Pallets scanned | 2 or more source pallets | 1 source pallet only |
| Resulting pallets | 1 (the destination pallet) | 2 (original + new pallet) |
| Content selection | Not required — everything comes together | Mandatory — box per line |
| Destination pallet | Chosen from the scanned pallets | Automatically created by Odoo |
| Main use case | Optimize space, reduce partial pallets | Partial shipments, batch separation |
When to use Union
- Partial pallets with the same item or lot to be merged
- End of shift: reordering and optimization of locations
- Before a shipment: create a complete pallet
- Merging of goods received in multiple subsequent deliveries
When to use Division
- Partial customer order on a pallet with multiple quantities
- Separation of lots with different expiry dates (FEFO)
- Sorting of mixed items received on a single pallet
- Isolation of quarantined or non-compliant goods
Limitations and requirements
Before using Pallet Consolidation, consider these requirements and limitations:
- Active pallets in Odoo — Pallet management (Stock Package module) must be enabled in the warehouse configuration Odoo. Without this feature, Consolidation is not available.
- Pallet not in open transfer — You cannot merge or split a pallet already reserved in an open Odoo transfer. Complete or cancel the transfer before proceeding.
- Same instance Odoo — All pallets involved must belong to the same instance Odoo that you are connected to. It is not possible to operate on warehouse pallets managed by different instances.
- Merge: minimum 2 pallets — The Merge Pallet button is activated only after scanning at least 2 distinct pallets. Scanning the same pallet twice does not count as double.
- Split: at least 1 row selected — The Split Pallet button remains disabled until you select at least one row. You can select all rows if necessary.
- Active Connection Required — Pallet Consolidation requires a connection to the server Odoo for the duration of the operation. Offline mode is not supported.
- Location unchanged after Merge — In Merge mode, the destination pallet remains in its current location. Source pallets are emptied into your inventory, but you have to physically collect them yourself.
- New pallet name generated by Odoo — In Split mode, the new pallet name is automatically assigned by Odoo. You cannot choose a custom name from the app.
Merging with mixed batches: If you merge pallets that contain the same product but with different batches, the rows remain distinct by batch in the destination pallet. Odoo does not merge batches automatically — this is the correct behavior to maintain traceability.
Switching from the Union tab to the Division tab (or vice versa) deletes the current session and resets all fields. Explicitly complete or cancel the current operation before switching modes.
Tips
Use the hardware scanner when available - it is the fastest and most reliable method. Avoid manually typing long or alphanumeric codes that lend themselves to typos.
After a Split, immediately print a label for the new pallet with the Print Labels function. The name generated by Odoo may not be immediately recognisable: a label avoids confusion before moving the pallet to the shelf.
Use Consolidation as a preparatory step for Pallet Transfer. Recommended sequence for a partial shipment: Division (extract the items to be shipped) → Pallet Transfer (move the new pallet to the shipping area) → confirmation of the transport document.
If a network error occurs during a merge, the pallets already processed before the interruption have been updated in Odoo, those not yet processed remain unchanged. If in doubt, check the status of the pallets involved directly in Odoo before repeating the operation.
