Component Picking

Operational guide to component picking: choose the task, scan products, adjust quantities, handle lots/serials and validate pickings or backorders.

Overview

Component Picking prepares or consumes the materials required by production. The operator selects a task, checks required components, scans or adjusts quantities, manages lots and serials, then validates the picking or decides how to handle missing quantities.

The screen loads up to 40 active productions. ONE_STEP shows productions without component picking; TWO_STEP and THREE_STEP work on productions with linked pickings.

Choose the right task

  1. Open Component Picking.
  2. Find the MO or finished product.
  3. Select the task before scanning.
  4. Check components, required quantity, availability and tracking.

Scans are matched only against the selected task. A component that belongs to another MO is rejected for the current task.

Scan components

The scanner requires an exact match on product barcode or internal reference. A partial code is not enough.

  1. Select the task.
  2. Scan the physical component.
  3. Check that the highlighted row is correct.
  4. Repeat scanning or use quantity controls.

Quantities and tracking

Use +1, -1, Zero, Full or manual quantity. Values are clamped between zero and the required demand. For tracked products, lot or serial is required before validation; serial products allow one unit per serial.

Validate the picking

  1. Review task, components and quantities.
  2. Check lots and serials.
  3. Press Validate.
  4. If a wizard appears, choose backorder, no backorder or cancel consciously.

Use a backorder when the missing quantity must be picked later. Use no backorder only when the residual should not be processed.

Practical examples

Complete picking

  1. Select MO/2026/001.
  2. Scan COMP-A four times or press Full after counting.
  3. Scan COMP-B, enter lot LOT-260518 and quantity 2.
  4. Scan serialized COMP-C and enter SN-0001.
  5. Validate the picking.

Partial picking

  1. The task requires 10 pieces but only 7 are available.
  2. Enter quantity 7.
  3. At validation choose backorder if the 3 missing pieces must remain open.

Common errors

  • Code not recognized: check exact barcode or internal reference.
  • Component not in task: check the selected MO.
  • Missing lot: enter lot or serial for tracked products.
  • Serial quantity above 1: record one serial per unit.

Requirements and limits

  • Up to 40 active productions are loaded.
  • Manufacturing scanning does not perform dedicated GS1 parsing.
  • Quantity writing uses current fields and legacy fallbacks when needed.
  • Validation depends on stock wizards available in Odoo.
