Quick Info
Scan any barcode and instantly get information about the identified item — product, location, lot or package — without having to open any specific module.
Overview
Quick Info is the SiltaFlow tool for fast warehouse consultation. Just scan a barcode with the device camera, with a hardware scanner or type a text, and the app responds immediately showing available information on Odoo for that item.
You don't need to know in advance if you're scanning a product, a shelf, a lot or a package: Quick Info determines it automatically. The app tries in sequence the four categories and shows the first result found.
Quick Info is read-only. You can't modify quantities, move items or confirm operations from this screen. Use SiltaFlow's specific modules for those actions.
How search works
When you scan a code, Quick Info performs a cascading search on Odoo: checks in order if the code matches a product, then a location, then a lot and finally a package. As soon as it finds a match, it shows the result and stops.
| Step | What it searches | What it shows if found |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Product | Name, stock by location, GS1 data |
| 2 | Warehouse location | Full path, number of products present |
| 3 | Lot / Serial number | Associated product, expiration date |
| 4 | Package | Current package location |
| — | No match | Error message with the code read |
If in your warehouse you use the same code for both a product and a lot (practice to avoid), Quick Info will always show the product because it's searched first. Consider using different prefixes for lot codes.
What you see for each item type
Product
When the code matches a product, Quick Info shows the most complete panel. At the top you find product name and code; in the stock section you see three numbers side by side: total inventory, quantity reserved for orders in progress and available quantity (inventory minus reserved).
Below the totals, you see detail by location: the first five warehouse positions containing the product with their respective quantities. If the product is in more than five locations, an indicator appears with the number of additional locations.
If you scanned a composite GS1 barcode (like those used in pharmaceuticals or advanced logistics), Quick Info also shows additionally extracted data: lot number, expiration date and quantity present in the label.
Warehouse location
When the code matches a location (a shelf, an aisle, a staging area), Quick Info shows the short name and complete path in the warehouse hierarchy — for example "WH / Stock / Shelf B3". It also shows how many inventory records are present in that location at scan time.
A location's product counter represents inventory records (quant), not distinct products. If the same product is in three different lots in the same location, the counter marks 3, not 1.
Lot / Serial number
When the code matches a lot or serial number, Quick Info shows the lot name, the product it belongs to and the expiration date (if set). The expiration date is accompanied by a colored visual indicator: green if the lot is still valid, yellow if expiration is near, red if already expired.
Package
When the code matches a tracked package in Odoo, Quick Info shows the package name and the location where it currently is physically. It's useful for quickly locating a container in a warehouse with many staging or temporary storage areas.
Code not found
If none of the four categories produces a result, Quick Info shows an error panel with the code as it was read. This can happen if the item hasn't been registered in Odoo yet, if it's archived, or if the label was damaged and the code was read incorrectly.
How to input a code
Quick Info accepts input in three different ways, all active simultaneously. No need to select a mode: the app automatically manages the channel used.
- Device camera — Tap the camera button to start scanning. The app uses Google ML Kit to recognize 1D and 2D barcodes (EAN, Code 128, QR, Data Matrix, GS1 and other common formats). Also works with composite GS1 barcodes containing multiple pieces of information in a single code.
- Hardware scanner — If you use a device with integrated scanner (like Zebra terminals) or a connected Bluetooth scanner, the code is captured automatically without touching the screen. Compatible with DataWedge and scanners that send the code as keyboard input.
- Text search — Type the product name, code or part of the barcode in the search field. Suggestions appear after 300 milliseconds from the last key press, so search is very responsive. Useful when the label is illegible or you don't have a barcode.
If you need to verify many items in a row, hardware scanner is the fastest choice: you don't need to point the display at the barcode and reading is almost instant. Configure DataWedge in Intent or keyboard wedge mode for maximum compatibility.
Scan History
Quick Info remembers the last ten codes scanned during the work session. The history appears at the bottom of the screen, but only when no scan result is active: the moment you scan a code and the result is shown, the history automatically hides.
Tap an entry in the history to reopen that result in the main view, exactly as if you just scanned it. It's useful for quickly reviewing an already-searched item without having to rescan it.
History is not saved when the app closes: it resets on every new session. It contains a maximum of 10 entries; the oldest is automatically removed when an eleventh is added.
Opening complete detail
Each result panel shows a "See Details" button. Tapping it, you're taken directly to the corresponding detail screen in SiltaFlow: the product card, the location view, the lot card or the package view, depending on the type of item found.
This direct navigation is one of Quick Info's strengths: it lets you start from a fast scan and move with a single tap to full management features without returning to the main menu.
When to use it
Quick Info is the right tool every time you need a quick answer without wanting to open a specific module. Here are the most common cases:
- Verify shelf availability — You're in front of a product and want to know immediately how many units are available to fulfill an order. You scan the label and in a second you have total, reserved and available.
- Identify unknown lot — During picking you find a package with a lot code but don't know which product it belongs to. Quick Info identifies the lot, shows the product and expiration date.
- Navigate an unfamiliar warehouse — You're in a department you don't know and want to know what area the shelf label corresponds to. You scan the code and see the complete path in the warehouse organization.
- Locate a package — You need to move a package but don't remember where it is. You scan the barcode and see its current location immediately.
- Read composite GS1 labels — On goods receipt, an item has a barcode with multiple pieces of information: GTIN, lot, expiration date and quantity in a single code. Quick Info decodes them all and shows them in a single panel.
Quick Info or Stock Search?
Quick Info and Stock Search have different purposes and complement each other. Use Quick Info when you need an immediate answer on a single item. Use Stock Search when you want to filter, sort or analyze multiple items together.
| Feature | Quick Info | Stock Search |
|---|---|---|
| Instant answer from barcode | Yes | No |
| Identifies type automatically | Yes | No |
| Covers products, locations, lots and packages | Yes | Products only |
| Integrated GS1 decoding | Yes | No |
| Advanced filters and sorting | No | Yes |
| List view with multiple items | No | Yes |
Limits to know
Quick Info is designed for speed, not completeness. Here's what it doesn't do and why:
- Maximum 5 locations in stock detail — If a product is present in more than five locations, only the first five are shown. For complete detail, use the "See Details" button to open the product card.
- History of only 10 scans — The list of recent items resets when the app closes and is not saved between sessions.
- One result at a time — Cascading search always returns the first match. In rare cases where the same code exists as both a product and a lot, only the product is shown.
- Read-only — It's not possible to modify data, move items or confirm operations from Quick Info.
- Requires connection — Every scan queries Odoo in real time. Quick Info is not available offline.
- Additional GS1 data only for products — Lot, expiration and quantity extracted from a composite GS1 barcode are shown only if the main code matches a product.
- No export — It's not possible to export results or history to CSV or Excel.
Tips
Even if you think you already know the item type, use Quick Info for a quick verification: it's faster than opening the product module, lots module or warehouse map.
Use Quick Info to scan items you want to keep track of during your shift: history works as a temporary reference list, callable with a tap.
If a barcode is illegible (torn or worn label), use text search: type the partial product name or code and choose from the dropdown menu. Response comes in about 300 milliseconds.
Think of Quick Info as the starting point, not the final destination. Once you've identified the item, use "See Details" to access all management features: movements, associated lots, history and much more.
Requirements
To use Quick Info you need:
- Active internet connection (every scan queries Odoo in real time)
- Odoo account configured in SiltaFlow with warehouse access
- Android device version 10 or later
- Device camera (for barcode scanning with ML Kit), or compatible hardware scanner
