Camera and AI Images

Take product photos on the device and choose between local processing, such as background removal and watermarking, and remote AI features to enhance, edit or generate variants from a source photo.

Overview

SiltaFlow includes a complete photographic system designed for those who catalog physical products. Instead of taking photos with another app, transferring them to a computer, retouching them, and finally uploading them to Odoo, you can do it all in one step: you frame the product, shoot, and SiltaFlow takes care of the rest.

The camera system is available in all operating modes of the app — Online Mode, Excel Mode and Goods Receiving — and shares the same settings. Each photo taken can be automatically processed according to the configuration active at that moment.

Background removal, centering, cropping, deskew and watermark are local processing steps. Generative or enhancement AI features use the configured remote provider and send the source image to that service.

Remote AI for image enhancement

From the image gallery you can start from a local photo and ask AI to enhance it, edit it with a prompt, create variants or apply presets. The flow does not create product images from text only: it always needs a source image.

Supported image providers are OpenAI, Google/Gemini and OpenRouter. Depending on the provider, you can configure prompts, presets, color palettes, result count, up to two example images and watermark. The generated image stays local until you upload it to Odoo.

Use remote AI features only with images you are allowed to send to the selected provider. For fully local flows, disable AI image features and use on-device processing only.

How to take a photo

From the product sheet, tap the camera button. The camera frame opens: point the device at the product, wait for the focus to be stable and shoot. The photo is immediately added to the product gallery.

You can take multiple photos for the same product: each new shot is added to the gallery. If processing settings are on, each photo is processed as it is taken.

For best results with background removal, place the product on a surface with a very different color from the object. For example, a colored cardboard sheet under the product helps a lot to distinguish it from the background.

Gallery and more images per product

Each product can have multiple images. The gallery allows you to collect multiple shots of the same item — from different angles, with different details — and choose which one to show as the main image.

From the product gallery you can:

The "Manage images" counter on the product sheet shows how many images are present locally and how many have already been uploaded to Odoo, so you always know how many photos are missing until the catalog is updated.

Automatic background removal

Background removal is the most powerful function of the SiltaFlow photography system. After each shot, the app automatically identifies the product in the image and separates the subject from the background, replacing it with the color or transparency you choose in the settings.

This feature works with most common products: boxes, bottles, components, tools, clothing and much more. It doesn't require a photography setup: you can shoot in the warehouse, in the office or on the workbench, and still get a clean, professional image.

Background removal is turned off by default. When it's turned off, processing is much faster and the photo is saved as it was taken, with only any resizing and cropping applied.

Background color

After the background removal has worked, the removed pixels are replaced with the color you chose in the settings:

Background color Description When to use it
White Pure white background Standard for catalogue, e-commerce and product sheets
Black Pure black background Clear products or premium packaging that stand out against black
Grey Medium gray background White products that would get lost on a pure white background
Transparent Transparent background, PNG file For graphic compositions, InDesign or Canva templates

The transparent background generates PNG files, which are larger than JPEGs. Some versions of Odoo may not accept transparent PNG images as the main product image. If you're having trouble loading, switch to the White or Gray wallpaper.

Self-centering and straightening

When background removal is on, you can also enable auto-centering. This feature analyzes the position of the product in the image after the background has been removed, calculates where the subject is located and repositions it in the center of the image by adding an even margin on all sides.

In practice: even if you shot with the product slightly moved to one side, or tilted, auto-centering automatically corrects the composition. The result is a well-balanced image, with the product perfectly centered.

Auto-centering only works if background removal is on, because it needs to know where the subject is in the image to be able to center it. If background removal is turned off, auto-centering is not applied.

For very small products (screws, components, accessories), auto-centering works best with good uniform lighting and a solid color background. Strong shadows can confuse the detection of subject edges.

Resolution and image format

Maximum resolution

You can choose the maximum size of images produced by SiltaFlow. Higher resolutions give more detailed images but larger files; lower resolutions produce lightweight files, ideal for fast uploads on Odoo or for slow connections.

Option Typical file size Recommended for
Original 4–15 MB Large print, high fidelity archive
1920px (Full HD) 2.5–5MB A3+ printing, advanced zoom in e-commerce
1280px (HD) 1–2.5MB Catalog Odoo, product sheets, general use
800px 300–600KB Fast inventory, massive upload, slow connections

For most Odoo catalogs, 1280 px (HD) is the ideal balance point: excellent visual quality for product sheets and previews, files light enough to load quickly, and good compatibility with the limits of Odoo.

Format (aspect ratio)

You can choose the width/height ratio of the final image. The image is cropped in the center with the chosen aspect ratio:

Watermark (Watermark)

SiltaFlow can add text overlay to each photo produced. This feature, called a watermark or watermark, is used to identify images with your company name, protect photos from unauthorized use, or annotate operational photos with information such as the date or document number.

SiltaFlow offers two independent watermarks that you can use in combination:

Watermark parameters

Each watermark is configured with these parameters:

Parameter Description
Text The text to show on the photo (up to 50 characters). Supports copyright symbols such as © and ®.
Location 5 positions available: top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right, center.
Text size Three options: Small, Medium, Large. The size adjusts proportionally to the image resolution.
Rotation Text angle in degrees. 0° = horizontal, 45° = diagonal, -45° = reverse diagonal.
Opacity Watermark transparency in percentage (0%–100%). The default value is 30%, discreet but readable.
Color Text color in RGB hexadecimal format (e.g. #FFFFFF for white, #000000 for black).
Application Which photos to apply the watermark to: only those taken with the camera, only those imported from the gallery, or both.

For catalog use with discreet protection, an opacity between 25% and 45% is sufficient to identify the image without disturbing the view of the product. For legal or archival use, use 70–85% opacity for a highly visible watermark.

Photo Settings

All the options described in this guide are found in the Photo Settings of SiltaFlow. You can access it from the settings menu in any operating mode. The settings apply to all photos taken by the app and are retained between sessions.

How the photo is processed

When you take a photo, SiltaFlow processes it following a precise sequence of operations. Each operation is optional and is performed only if the corresponding function is active in the settings:

  1. Acquisition — The photo is acquired from the camera or imported from the gallery.
  2. Aspect Ratio Crop — If you have chosen an aspect ratio other than Original (1:1, 4:3 or 16:9), the image is cropped in the center with the chosen aspect ratio.
  3. Background Removal — If enabled, the system identifies the product in the image and removes the background, leaving the subject isolated.
  4. Auto-center — If enabled and the background has been removed, the product is repositioned in the center with even margins on all sides.
  5. Scaling — The image is scaled to the maximum resolution chosen, always maintaining the aspect ratio.
  6. Background Fill — If the background has been removed, transparent pixels are replaced with the chosen background color (White, Black, Gray, or Transparent).
  7. Watermark — If one or both watermarks are active, the configured text is overlaid on the image in the position and style you choose.
  8. Saving — The final image is saved in JPEG (if the background is white, black or gray) or PNG (if the background is transparent) format.

Tips

A colored sheet under the product greatly improves the quality of background removal. The system works best when there is a clear color contrast between the product and the surface it is placed on.

Good uniform lighting improves both background removal and self-centering. Avoid direct lights that create harsh shadows at the edges of the product: pronounced shadows can be mistakenly included in the subject.

Before photographing dozens of products in one session, take 2–3 test shots and check them out. Make sure background removal, centering, resolution, and watermark are as expected. It's much quicker to fix the setup at the beginning than to redeem everything.

Background removal works with one product in the frame at a time. If you frame multiple products together, the system tries to isolate the largest or most prominent subject. For best results, photograph one product at a time.
